The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak II - Van's Sweets Odyssey

Van Arkride, the protagonist of The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak II, takes a break from his work at Arkride Solutions to inform us of tasty treats across the country of Calvard!

Hey everyone, Van Arkride of Arkride Solutions here. I was asked to write an article for this blog, and while it's not the kinda work I usually take on, they told me I could write about whatever I wanted, so I couldn't pass up the opportunity. That's why I'm bringing you my Top 3 Best* Dessert Spots in Calvard! (*subject to change if I find anything better)

First things first, I've gotta start with a local favorite—somewhere in Edith where you can get the best sweets, rain or shine. No place fits the bill better than the Andalucía Pâtisserie!

Located in some prime real estate at the center of the Auber District, Andalucía's most famous for its unreal selection of absolutely delicious cakes. With the Quincy Company setting up shop at Trion Mall, they've definitely got some competition in town, but I'm telling ya: if you haven't had one of their cakes before, nothing else can compare. The enveloping butteriness of their butter cake, the citrusy bite of their fresh orange cake... Whew, think I might have to stop by Andalucía before I continue.

Well, they were out of their seasonal specialty cake (again...), but I picked up a little something to tide me over. On to the next stop!

Next place I wanna mention is a spot in Langport, the Dazzling City. Langport's in the far south of Calvard, so that's a pretty long drive from Edith… But it's well worth the trip! They've got theaters, cinemas, and plenty of fine dining.

But the place I wanna talk about in particular is a small, upscale restaurant sitting right on the water: Houraien. They're definitely more famous for their food than their sweets—their seafood is a real highlight of any trip to Langport—but you GOTTA try their sanbuzhan. If you've never had it, it's kinda hard to describe, but it's basically like a soft, eggy custard, and it's famous for how it doesn't stick to your plate, chopsticks, or teeth. I swear, the texture's unlike anything you've ever had before, and the gentle sweetness is just to die for! Add to that its perfect yellow color, and you've got pure happiness on a plate.

Last up is a place that's near and dear to my heart: the mountain resort town of Longlai. It's about as far from Edith as Langport is, but instead of south, you head far to the east, toward the Kunlun Mountains. The place has a unique aesthetic you won't find anywhere else in Calvard, and it's perfect for vacationing, with tours up into the mountains, tons of local cultural experiences—and don't even get me started on the hot springs!

And if you want to try out a really unique sweet while you're there, stop by Shigi's stall and pick up a black mantou. It's a steamed bun with a subtle sweetness, and it uses a special ingredient to get that rich, black luster: charcoal made from the bamboo that grows all around the Kunlun range. Might sound a little weird, but trust me—it's worth every last mira. Man, been a while since I was back in Longlai, and talking about the black mantou's got me all nostalgic…

Well, that's about it from me. The guys here at NIS America, Inc. said I could take this li'l keychain with me back home to Edith. Might keep it here on my car keys for a bit.

…Actually, I don't wanna hear Aaron making fun of me for carrying around a picture of myself. Maybe I'll just keep it hidden for now. Stop by the office if you're ever in Edith—if you've got a 4SPG for us, we'll always hear you out!
